MSPs to debate deaf children’s education

The National Deaf Children’s Society’s Close the Gap report, published earlier this year, highlighted the unacceptable attainment gap which exists for young deaf learners in Scotland. Following on from the recommendations contained in this report, we successfully secured recognition of this attainment gap from the Minister for Learning, Science and Scotland’s Languages.

A debate is now due to take place in the Scottish Parliament on Thursday 11th December at 12:30pm on the Educational Disadvantage and Deaf Children in Scotland. The relevant motion lodged by Kenneth Gibson MSP can be found here.

Deaf children and their education will take centre stage in Scottish Parliament – this is a fantastic opportunity to raise their political profile.

What can you do?

Help us maximise the impact of this debate by having as many MSPs as possible attend. We would urge you to take this opportunity to write to your local MSPs requesting their attendance at the debate to take part in this important dialogue.

Your local MSPs can be found here.
